Finnan back to EPL!?

http://www.soccervoice.com/n090119.htm

Daily Mirror reports today that Tottenham will try to sign Steve Finnan from Spanish club Espanyol. The former Liverpool defender has earlier dismissed reports about him being on his way back to London.

Finnan played for Fulham, before joining Liverpool in 2003. The well travelled player has also been at Welling United, Birmingham and Notts County. Finnan (32) has 52 caps for Ireland as well.

Totteham might need more routine in their back four and Redknapp looks at Finnan as the ideal man to get in. He is a good club player who knows  the Premier League well after playing almost eight years there with Fulham and Liverpool.

Espanyol rule out Finnan exit

Espanyol have dismissed reports suggesting that Steve Finnan could be set to leave the club in January.

Tottenham and Arsenal have both been linked with the experienced right-back, who only joined Espanyol from Liverpool during the summer.

Finnan has struggled with injuries since his arrival in Spain but coach Mane regards him as an important member of his squad.

"I am convinced that Finnan will be decisive in our defence," Mane said in the Spanish press.

Sport director Paco Herrera added: "Finnan stays in Espanyol because he is a main man for the second part of the season."

Really bad news for Finnan

Failed Medical Foils Steve Finnan's Hull City Switch

According to The Daily Mail, Steve Finnan's proposed move from Espanyol to Hull City has been scrapped after his medical produced some unwelcome findings.

The Irish defender has a serious muscular problem in his left thigh, which has been largely responsible for his horror start to life in Spain's Primera Division.

After leaving Liverpool last summer, the 32-year-old has made just four La Liga appearances and been more or less unavailable ever since picking up this career-threatening injury in November.

It is terrible news for Finnan, who carved out a reputation as one of the Premier League's most consistent wide-men before minor fitness problems ended his five-year stay at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Phil Brown must now turn his attention elsewhere as he continues his search for experienced performers who can reinvigorate Hull's flagging campaign.
